Voters and the ride request service

All information provided by voters seeking a ride to their respective polling place and volunteer drivers who provide transportation to those voters, including names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses shall be used only to provide the transportation requested and not disclosed to any party agencies except to facilitate said transportation.

This information is accessible only for the purposes intended by agencies, employees of those agencies and volunteers for the agencies by secure and unique user names and passwords. Further, at the conclusion of the election for which transportation is requested, all personal information is discarded.

The Ride to the Poll app

The Ride to the Poll app is run by Net One Stop ("we", "us"). It helps volunteer drivers and their agencies get voters a ride to the polls. This section explains what the app collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who uses the app

The app is for adults. It is not directed at children.

What we collect

InformationFromWhy we need it
Mobile number and password (or username and password)Drivers, agency staffTo sign you in.
Your first and last nameDrivers, agency staffTo show who is signed in. Saved in encrypted storage on your phone so you stay signed in after closing the app.
Push notification tokenDrivers, agency staffTo send you a notification when a ride is assigned or something changes.
Your trip steps with the time (accepted, declined, picked up, dropped off, returned home)DriversTo run the trip and tell the agency what is happening.
Whether you are available for ridesDriversSo agencies only assign rides to drivers who are available.
Your location (see below)Drivers, only if you allow itSo an agency can see which available driver is closest to a pickup.

Your location

Sharing your location is your choice. The app asks first, in plain words, and then your phone asks for its own permission. You can say no and still be assigned rides.

Voters' information in the app

Rides are requested through the Ride to the Poll website and our coordinators, not through this app. If a voter gives an email address on the website's request form, we use it only to tell them we received the request and, later, that a driver has accepted it (with the driver's first name only). The app only shows a voter's name, pickup address, time and any special needs to the one driver assigned to that ride, so the driver can do the trip. The app does not collect this information from the person using it.

How we protect it

The app talks to our servers only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Your saved sign-in and name are kept in your phone's encrypted storage. Repeated wrong passwords temporarily lock an account's sign-in to make guessing harder.

Changes to this policy

If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date at the top.
